Team 25:40 had a cold start to yesterday’s Marine Corps Marathon and 10k. But they braved the cold (and the mud) to run the 10K and the full marathon. They were easy to spot on the course in their construction yellow t-shirts!

We at 25:40 are so blessed to have such a great team of runners who are passionate and loyal to children they have never met. The team raised more than $21,000 for 25:40 programs in Hamburg and Canzibe. This is our largest fundraising event of the year and it was a great success!

Willie Karell from Arlington, VA ran in toe shoes (almost like being barefoot) and it seemed to work for him, being the first Team 25:40 member to cross the finish line at 3:33. Christopher Wayne came in second with a strong time of 3:48. He also is the highest fundraiser who ran the marathon, bringing in $3,020 for 25:40. Kerry Ryan raised slightly more $3,167.40, but sadly couldn’t run because of an injury.

We had twins Mark and Paul Scott, originally from South Africa, run with us to celebrate their birthdays! Paul amazingly overcame jetlag from flying in from Johannesburg, SA the day before for a very strong run. Both of them ran the race in 4:37.

Uncle and niece team William Herwehe and Sarah Casey from Louisiana traveled far to run with as well.

We had several runners who have been to South Africa for various reasons, so the love of the country inspired them to run with Team 25:40. We were happy to have repeat runners: Christie-Anne Edie, Caleb Griffin,  Willie Karell, Bridget Kilduff, Jesse Mishler, and Lesley Semones and Alec Zacaroli.

We hope you all come back next year. We pray for a quick reovery for all of you and thank you for so much of your time and support!

CURRENT PROJECTS
25:40’s current focus is on children living in rural areas of South Africa’s Eastern Cape. We have selected this area as our place of initial focus due to its extreme poverty, lack of resources and lack of attention from the outside world.
THE AIDS IMPACT
The Sub-Saharan AIDS epidemic has a devastating effect on millions of families. Consider that 5.3 million adults and children live with HIV/AIDS in South Africa alone. Discover the hard facts about AIDS, and help become a part of the solution.
TEAM 25:40
Help become part of the solution by running for 25:40. As a fundraising partner this is your place to share your story about your race, discover races in your area, and network with likeminded people.
