Pray

It is very easy to get overwhelmed and discouraged when you consider the numbers we are up against – 12.5 million children orphaned by HIV/AIDS  the HIV incidence rates in South Africa between 15 and 33 percent, and 75 percent of families in the Eastern Cape who live in poverty. (we need to check these numbers). Accordingly, we covet your prayers. Please pray for the children, women and men we are serving and those we have not yet found but need help. Please also pray that all we do will honor God.

Serve in South Africa. Since 2007 Pat Thomas, a retired speech-language specialist and teacher has spent 2-3 months each year volunteering in the Hamburg Schools. Jay Rowley, a recent college graduate , is volunteering  several months this summer  at Masonwabe Pre-school in Canzibe. Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, Burke, VA, will be sending a team to Canzibe in the summer of 2012.

Give

Also, consider donating something for one of our silent auctions, i.e. a weekend get-away, art work, sports memorabilia, dinner at your home or favorite restaurant,  etc.

Team 25:40 is an amazing and eclectic group of individuals who incorporate raising funds for children in need into various athletic endeavors. The beauty of it is that you can participate in one of the events we are sponsoring, participate in an event that best suits you, or organize an event in your area (Competitive eating any one?) Be Creative

Over the years we have had individuals support us in many fun and creative ways – a South African themed dinner, a South African wine tasting, a 25 hour and 40 minute walk, garage sales and silent auctions to name a few.

25:40’s current focus is on children living in rural areas of South Africa’s Eastern Cape. We have selected this area as our place of initial focus due to its extreme poverty, lack of resources and lack of attention from the outside world.
